Games MDA

First thing we need to know is MDA what is that, well. In the game design industry the MDA stands for Mechanics-Dynamics-Aesthetics framework and this is a tool used to analyse the games. It breaks down the consumption of games into three components: Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics. It also look to explain how it relates to each other and influence the player's experience.

  • The Mechanics are the base components of the game that means it forms the rules and every other basic action the player does in the game with it's algorithms and data structures in the game engine etc.
  • The Dynamics are the mechanics acting on the players input and cooperating with the other given mechanics.
  • The Aesthetics are the emotional responses simulated in and by the player.

Rules for a good game design:

Good Game
1. Strategy

To make the game worth playing for the first, second, how ever many times, you need to nail down interactivity. People need the sense that they can get better by refining their playing style over time. The game need to encourage people to master them over time.

2. Fun

If you hate the game you are play testing, do something different. Just never lose sight of it. Keep finding a way to make it bigger and better even if it is going to take you time and
effort the game should be fun for you, the game designer and for the players.

3. Adapt your level design

Depending on the objective and the audience, which is essential to make the game accessible to a broad audience and maintain player interest. Game duration needs to be adapted. The serious thing is that the game needs to be adapted to everyone, including those who say they are non-gamers. Casual games are easily accessed, simple to control, and not punishing.

Rules for a bad game design

1. Need More Content

I like short games. Better are the games that can be completed in a day, but are fun to replay over and over again. It’s up to you on how you add more content to your game. You can lengthen the game or you can add multiple endings or paths towards the ending of it. You can add collectables and achievements. Ideally, add optional content so someone can beat the game quickly, but can get more out of it with more time.

Bad Game
2.Game should not repeat itself

In every decision the player makes in the game whether it is a similar decision it should have a unique context. If the game repeats itself more that once it can continue like that as many times as it can. This denies the players feelings of the game being different in the further stages and its feeling of process or achievement.

3.Technical Problems

The technical things are the fall for bugs and glitches in the game such as crashes, controls not responding. There are many examples of games that had great design, but suffer due to bugs that weren't caught. Thanks to post-release support, most technical issues are caught and fixed, these days, but the longer players have to deal with them, the worse the game looks in their eyes.

That is all the information I have got for you Guys. Bye πŸ‘‹

  1. Hi Tochi it's me again hahaha.
I really like how quick and straightforward your blogs are. They are also easy to read and I understand it more better now than the time I read those long articles hahaa. I also love that you add some disadvantages of making a game as it gives balance to what you wrote.
