Game Testing

First and for most we have to know what exactly what playtesting is and how you came around it. So playtesting is commonly used when testing the techniques for given game or games. Where a selected group of people play an unfinished game and work out its flaws, design of the level and other basic elements in the given game while discovering and uncovering the game fixing glitches and hidden bugs in the game.

There are different types of play testing which are:

  • Gross Playtesting: A group of people the basic model of the game or app looking for faults within it.
  • In-House Playtesting: People from the company or contracted people to find extra glitches and broaden the game more.
  • Blind Playtesting: Group of people with no experience in playtesting to find faults which are sometimes missed by the professionals.
  • Final Playtesting: The last session of playtesting before the actual game is being launched.

Overall the role of playtesters is basically just to play and try out unpublished games to offer the producer feedback to change or alter the concept and mechanics, make improvements, solve and illuminate potential problems, glitches and bug but most of all to determine if the game is even fun to play.

With that here are the methods taken:

  • One-on-One Testing: Watch palytesters over shoulder as the play taking down notes.
  • Group Testing: Observing a group as they play asking questions.
  • Feedback Forms: Give playtesters a standard list of questions to answer after playing.
  • Interview: Face-to-Face with the playtester giving them an in-depth and oral interview after the play session

Thats all I got for you on the basics of the playtester.
